MoiraParticipant
I really like the idea of trying to get areas designated for bathing quality – Cilgerran would be an obvious choice maybe? It has the carpark so public access, close facilities, easy access into the river. And crucially maybe is an area in need of better testing, monitoring and cleaning. But as we were saying last night, if it’s tidal to there is probably won’t come under the remit?
We need to find somewhere that fits all the criteria. It can’t just be a spot on the river where a couple of people swim – it needs to be well-used by many. Catch 22!
SAS have a great guide for the project. https://www.sas.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/SAS-Bathing-Water-Designation-Toolkit-2022.pdf
MoiraParticipantThere’s a page for guidelines for petitions to the Senedd
https://senedd.wales/senedd-business/petitions/standards-for-petitions/
and here
https://petitions.senedd.wales/rules
This is the closest example in topic that i can find on the recent petitions page, regarding the Usk. If you look at the rejection notes it was decided that the actions planned by DC and plans by the Rural Affairs group were enough.
So we need to really think about the wording and what angle we want to take.
And I’m sure we could get a lot more than 1612 signatures
MoiraParticipantSo, here are the rules for petitioning the Senedd, along with a recent one submitted re the Usk. I think we;d need to really think about wording and try to target a specific area, a definite call to action rather than just ‘save the river’. Ideas?

Here’s a petition regarding the situation on the Usk. This one was taken to committee stage in March of this year but no further action was taken as they considered the matter already being dealt with adequately by the Rural affairs Committee and Dŵr Cymru!

I’m happy to set my name to a petition but I’d like to brainstorm the right wording.

MoiraParticipantThe NRW petition to the Senedd is now live! Sign and share!

MoiraParticipantI’d like to start a petition – a specific call to action for people. Planning on getting the leaflets around but I think we need something definite for people to get the ball rolling – it’s also easy to disseminate across social media.
My priority would be to make sure that it’s asking the Sennedd to do something they can actually do! Even if we reach the required 10,000 signatures – easily done I think – if we’re not asking for something they could actually achieve it will be thrown out.
Ok, just found this
https://petitions.senedd.wales/help
which says you need to use the Sennedd’s own petition system. They won’t accept from other sites – eg Change.org? And they’ll only deal with matters they can deal with – so I guess DC’s issues are DC’s. We’d need to phrase it right.
MoiraParticipantI have set up a petition on the Senedd’s website- which should be live in the next few days – to petition for proper funding of NRW and a more stringent approach to holding them to account. I’ll post the link here and on the FB page when I have confirmation that it’s live.
Here’s the link to the petition https://petitions.senedd.wales/petitions/245501?fbclid=IwAR3UbCf3sHVihjg1hSbbd7hkkAmizieCdMunqmvpSk_JCgaE-pd4p62vBjM – 1253 signatures as of 16-Nov-23

MoiraParticipantI’d like to set up a petition to urge the Senedd to do something. Apparently they won’t even look at any petitions from places such as Change.org – though we could get one on there too? It would be a simple call to action for people as we spread awareness.
